I joined scouting as a Cub Scout in Pack 70 located in Astoria/Jackson Heights in 1960 and never left. In Troop 70, I reached the rank of life, was Scoutmaster for 20 years and am now currently am Committee Chair. I was also an explorer adviser to Posts 10, 345 and 640. I have held most district committee/commissioner positions including District Commissioner. I was also the Queens Council Advancement chair. The job I enjoyed most, other than scoutmaster, was the Gateway District High Adventure chair when we took scouts touring camps in 37 states over 7 years. I have been both a leader and a staff member at National Jamborees.
Suanhacky bestowed upon me the Indian name translated as “One who leads activities†when I kept my vigil. I have been the Chapter Adviser of Tatanka chapter (Gateway District) and have been Associate Lodge Adviser for Lodge Operations, Inductions and now Chapter Operations. I was Lodge Adviser from 1988 to 1992. I have attended seven NOAC’s and have been staff on two. I have been a camp staff member at Kernochan, Hayden and Headquarters and a volunteer staff member at Aquehonga, Kunatah and Headquarters. My troop has camped at TMR every year since 1972.
I hold a BS in Geology and Environmental Science, an MBA and an MSEd. I was employed by Con Edison for 18 years and left to become an Earth Science Teacher in Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood. I am currently Assistant Principal for Science and Technology and a state Earth Science Mentor. I’m on the board of trustees of the First Unitarian Church of Brooklyn and my hobbies include Geocaching and U.S. Travel. I live in Middle Village.
